Hi from Joe: The Transformer & PWM motor control showed yesterday; took about an hr to assemble the controller [including the time spent hunting the drive transistor when it turned into a bird & flew away, finding a substitution]. Transformer is a Triad FS10-1200, has 2 primaries & 2 secondaries [5.0 Vac] & wired in series makes 181 Vdc. A full wave bridge across the bottom coil gets 6.1 Vdc for the controller & mixer motor. The filter capacitor for the 181 V is a 100 microfarad 200Vdc rated; is much too big for half wave rectification, takes about 30 sec to discharge, need about 10 microfarads for handling safety. The 6 Vdc supply cap is 220 microfarads, needs to be around 1000; get 2 V ripple & irregular motor pulse periods but runs fine. Had about 95% drive. Stopped at 3 hrs into batch - the #14 wire insulation was a loose fit, fell into the mix glass; fixed it on w a piece of safety wire, twisted tight [on the $1 Radio Shack motor].
Initial current, at room temp, no addition of starter to distilled water - 1.56 mA, at 4 hrs had 1.77mA, flat curve for 1.5 hrs. Terminal separation [1/2 x 6" strips] - 1.5". Electrode voltage @ 4 hrs = 9.46 Vdc. Supply current limited w a 100K ohm 1/2 W resistor. Still clear appearance, still running. Best guess at mix velocity between plates is about 2" / sec, seems surprisingly uniform top to bottom [bigger particles in laser beam], stirrer goes about 1/3 down a 7 5/8" hi coke glass & have about 1" / sec at the bottom. Looks lots better than last batch w too hi I. Bye. -- The silver-list is a moderated forum for discussion of colloidal silver.
