Subj: [healthfraud] FDA FINALLY CHALLENGES SILVER Date: 6/17/01 1:04:23 PM EST From: [email protected] To: [email protected]
This website has discussed silver fraud many times, and now the FDA has finally taken action to stop unwarranted sale of silver products. The Wall Street Journal reports the story in the June 14 issue with the headlines "Regulators Crack Down on Web's New Miracle Cure: Colloidal Silver." The FDA and the FTC (Federal Trade Commission) are planning to announce a series of enforcement actions against a number of Internet retailers engaging in "fraudulent marketing of supplements and other health products".Letters of warnings have been sent out to people like Dan Winland , of Winco marketing in British Columbia, and Kurt Wilson of Survival Enterprises of Idaho . Mr Wilson replied, :It has saved too many people, so I'm not going to pull it off the market".He plans to move his operation to Samoa, but the FDA and FTC feel they will still have jurisdiction. Silver has been used as an antibacterial as with nasal drops, eye drops, and combined with sulfadiazine ointment for burns, but better antibacterials are now available. I saw such a patient years ago who developed arguria, a silver discoloration of the skin that was permanent. Those making fraudulent claims for the benefits of silver face fines, product seizure ,or web site shut down. The problem the FDA has is that it does not have jurisdiction over supplements which anyone can sell, and the hucksters have taken advantage of this flaw in the law. Perhaps this belated action may be effective. Dr Chot. -- The silver-list is a moderated forum for discussion of colloidal silver.
