Olcott (1948, 1950) reported enlargement of the left ventricle of the heart in rats receiving drinking water containing 635-660 mg silver/day as either silver nitrate or silver chloride for life. Histologic examination showed slight thickening of the basement membranes of kidney glomeruli in the absence of severe renal lesions. Deposition of silver granules was observed in the skin, eyes, and several internal organs. (Gee, there's a surprise! g) Ummm.
