It happened to me over ten years ago. I was doing pushups during a Kung-fu
warmup, when my left arm collapsed as you described.
Went to a chiropractor who examined me and took x-rays. He told me it was a
pinched nerve in my shoulder. I recovered without treatment. The problem lasted
3 days.
