Do you know what makes the charger automatic?
Does it have some sort of voltage comparator used to turn itself off?
Does it or have a current control that 'slows' it down?

Ed: The various amp settings on battery chargers actually control the voltage
not the amperage across the load. Since you will be using DW to make CS you
will get milliamps at the nominal 15 -30 volts generated by 12 & 24 volt
battery chargers. Roger
