I wanted to say something about "Mexican silver" from my experience as a
jewelry crafter. In talking to two other craftspersons about Mexican silver
at craft shows, I learned that it contains very little (if any) silver, but
rather is a compound of nickel, zinc and some other metals. I discovered
this because the jewelrysmiths were selling lovely abalone bracelets etc.
REALLY cheap, and I asked them how they could keep their prices so low. This
is how they did it. It's a typical marketplace ploy to fool people, and
apparently it is legal to call such a compound "Mexican silver." For people
who buy jewelry thinking they are getting the real thing and instead get
this, it is simply not nice; but if you're using "Mexican silver" to make
CS, the difference could be deadly.

People on this list who talk about Mexican silver may simply mean 99.99%
pure silver from Mexico. However, I would check this out before you make a
terrible mistake. Please let the list know what you find out--there might be
two different types of "Mexican silver," and I'm simply unaware of this.
