Ions are produced at some rate determined by factors such as current draw
and voltage anongst others all working in concert.
Hydration protects ions from clumping or agglomerating into larger and
larger colloidal particles.
If the ion production rate exeeds the hydration rate, the result is larger
colloidal particles.
Current control keep the ion production rate constant.
Bubbling the water does the same thing as stirring..it increases the
hydration rate.
If the hydration rate is increased, the ion production rate can also be
increased and still wind up with small particles.
If the current is controlled to a very small value, convection currents in
the water are sufficient to hydrate the ions fast enough to prevent
excessive agglomeration. This is the reasoning behind heating the water
slightly as you make CS and one of the reasons for preheating the water.
[the other reason has to do with raising initial conductivity of the water
to get things going faster] Convection occurs both when water cools and
when it heats up or when there is a heat differential.
Current control and stirring used together allows for higher PPM and small
particle [colorless] CS to be made faster.
If the current is not controlled, ion production rate increases [runs
away] as the process proceeds and exceeds hydration rate at some point so
larger particle agglomeration occurs.
Both Trem at silvergen.com and I at silverpuppy.com used these factors
[put forth by Ole Bob] in designing our generators. There may be others
who have as well. At least one generator manufacturer uses a bubbler in his
system. [Don't recall which or I'd plug him too]
The bubbler may be an easier way to stir for the average home generator
builder but is a bit unwieldy for a compact generator package. However,
adding a bubbler or stirrer is a really good idea for any existing
generator. Even the most primitive designs benefit from increased hydration
rates.
