ON SHINGLES: Shingles is caused by the Herpes Zoster virus, a cousin to the Herpes Simplex I (cold sore) & II (VD)viruses. All of these viruses are suppressed by copious quantities of L-lysine, an amino acid available at most HF stores. When I was 24, I had some sores on the back of my neck that wouldn't heal. The doctor mis-diagnosed them as an allergic reaction (they were actually cold sores), and gave me a steroid cream. I put it on my neck, went to bed, and woke up the next morning with my head, face, neck, shoulders, chest and back covered with hundreds of sores. I was in Stanford hospital for nearly a week. The doctors didn't have a clue what to do (they don't with viruses). They brought in a high-powered infrared lamp, had me sign some papers that promised that I wouldn't sue them if I got skin cancer, and baked me all week. It did work. But 2 to 4 times a year thereafter, the sores would break out on my face, usually near my eyes (they will blind you if they get in your eyes).
Fortunately, I found out that all variations of the Herpes virus are suppressed by L-lysine. I bought it and kept it at hand at all times. When a cold sore would appear, I would take 4-5,000 mg. per day, and the cold sores would be gone in 3-5 days (they didn't spread during that time, either). Of course, since I started drinking CS each day (10-20 oz/day), I have not had one cold sore for the last 2 1/2 years. I also haven't had one cold or flu bout or sick day, either. The shingles thing seems simple and straightforward to me. Mix 1 oz of DMSO with 5 - 10 oz of CS, soak a bandage in it, strap or tape that bandage over the affected area, wear all day (or night). Cover the outer side of the bandage with plastic wrap to keep it from drying too fast. Resoak the bandage each time, or when it dries out. Wear all day OR all night, not both. The addition of other constituents to the DMSO/CS mix, such as Golden Seal or Comfrey powder, would likely increase its effectiveness. Also, for shingles, I would get one those DC voltage adapters, the kind with a switch that lets you adjust the voltage from 3-12 volts. Cut off the plug, separate the wires, solder the ends of the wires to the backs of 2 2" or 3" square pieces of unpainted aluminum or sheet metal, (one wire to each piece of metal), glue some 1/2" thick kitchen sponge (2 1/4" or 3 1/4" square, a little bit bigger than the pieces of sheet metal) onto each of the pieces of sheet metal (a spot of glue on each corner), soak the sponge in salty water (saline solution), plug in the adapter and hold the wet sponges to various places on the body or each side of the shingles-affected area for 20-60 minutes several times per day (kind of a cheap Zapper/Beck device). Adjust the voltage to be comfortable. Basically trying to electrocute the shingles virus. PLASTIC BOTTLES: I buy PETE 16 oz amber brown bottles from a pharmacist by the hundreds. Costs me, here in Canada, 60 cents per bottle, should be cheaper in the US. Call around and takh to some pharmacists. Tell them its for mineral water, or an herbal drink. BONE/JOINT/SPINAL DEGENERATION: There are many opinions and many products being offered concerning these kinds of health issues. I like to keep it simple, if possible. I have had near-miraculous results with this basic formula: 2 capsules per meal (6,000 mg/day of each) of Calcium Citrate, Glucosamine Sulfate and MSM (separate bottles, not mixed together in the capsules). Actually, Calcium Citrate normally doesn't come in 1,000 mg capsules, usually much lower. Take as much as you can afford. A good liquid mineral supplement (the kind with 80+ minerals and trace minerals). Search for Concentrace, from Trace Minerals Research (Ogden, Utah). Very concentrated minerals, dosage is 1/4 tspn 2Xday. This formula, used by my clients, has brought enthusiastic responses from them concerning arthritis, bursitis, osteoporosis and post-polio syndrome.
