Hi:

I've been a member of this for less than two months so would be considered a
genuine newcomer. As such I've kept many of my thoughts to myself. I did
after all join your community. However there seems to be a genuine interest
in hearing what people think of their individual experiences on this list at
least on the part of the host/moderator. So Here goes.

I am currently a member of a couple dozen mailing lists on subjects ranging
from Rife technology, to computer software, to holistic health for both
humans and dogs (an area of special interest to me) to, obviously I presume.
Colloidal silver. I have moderated and co-moderated mailing lists and I
currently host a mailing list.

I have never joined a list to which I have posted an introduction To which I
didn't receive a welcome from anybody usually there are several with the
exception of this one. Never have I felt less welcome or welcomed on a list
than I do on this one. When I have asked a question it has either been met
with no response at all, a response indicating that I was a bother. or told
that my question was one which would stir up trouble of one sort or another.
It is only barely conceivable to me that a group of adults cannot discuss
differing views with civility.

The most meaningful responses I've gotten to my posts have been off list.
Often my questions about CS have been met with an invitation to discuss it
off list. This while people on list are discussing things like intergalactic
philosophy or world domination conspiracy theories.

I have been amazed at the rancor on the list. I've been somewhat surprised
at the amount of off topic material although I do agree that a certain
amount of that sort of thing is needed to maintain a feeling of community.

I have chosen, for the most part, to keep my mouth shut and just read the
various theories posted by others. I have learned a lot in the short time
I've been on this list, but feel I could have gained more *practical*
knowledge if I didn't feel as though I was a bother and overall not worth
the time required to respond to my questions.

I have definitely not found this to be a welcoming atmosphere of camaraderie
with the expressed purpose of helping people new to the subject to learn
about CS, its uses, and production.

I came here hoping to find a community in which I could find some practical,
useful, information on the production and use of CS, and support for my
decision to pursue the use of CS as a part of maintaining wellness. I found
instead a collection of adversaries each of whom appears to believe that he
is genuinely superior (in education, in scientific methodology, in basic
intelligence,or simply in experience) to the others on the list. Each of
whom seems interested almost solely in promoting a product or service or
simply an ego rather than caring at all about the advancement of people's
practical understanding of CS. Obviously this isn't true of everybody on
this list but it is the overall atmosphere.

This is not intended as a complaint, rather a commentary from someone who
came here hoping to get a better understanding of CS and how I could
practically put it to use in my life. My hope is that it will be heard and
understood as an attempt to point out that this is no way to further the
cause of CS or to help us, less informed, (the majority of the people in the
world) understand the subject.

Thank you for your time.
