Let me say that I think a FAQ is a good idea and would probably be helpful.
However it cannot take the place of active interaction. I know it gets
tiresome answering the same questions over and over, however a certain
amount of that is inevitable on a list of this kind and should be borne
graciously.
When a new member posts an introduction on a list I host or moderate I make
a point of sending a personal welcome post to the new member. if they don't
provide enough information about themselves and their experience in the
field the list addresses for me and other list members to be able to attempt
to address possible issues I ask them for details. On this list, those
questions might include, "Do you currently take CS? Are you taking it for
any particular illness? Do you make your own or do you buy a ready made
product? Are you able to find a suitable product locally? Have you read any
books on CS? What were they? Were they helpful or did they leave you more
confused? Where do you feel you need the most help when it comes to CS?" Not
every question need be asked of every new member of course, but asking
people about themselves usually makes them feel more welcome. Depending on
the responses given other questions can be asked or recommendations made.
A standard form letter sent out to each new member, possibly including the
FAQ sheet, is a good start. However e-mail is already impersonal and
anonymous enough. Depending exclusively on a form letter to welcome somebody
to a group does little to break down that barrier and make a person feel
genuinely welcome and part of a community. Making that initial introductory
post is roughly equivalent to getting up in front of a bunch of total
strangers and saying "Hi, my name is --- and I would like your help." For
this to be met with silence or the equivalent of "Find the answers yourself"
or "We don't talk about those things here, go out in the hall", is most
likely going to send the person away or to retreat into lurker mode. Even if
the person does post a reasonably complete introduction, responding by
asking them something about themselves helps make them feel like a welcome
and valued part of a group.
The following, if used at all, will undoubtedly take some editing.
The only locally available CS is marked 500 ppm and is the color of
yesterdays diner coffee. I have avoided purchasing this in the belief that
the claim of 500 ppm is probably not true and that I it is my understanding
that CS should be clear or amber. Should I avoid this product? Are they
making false claims about their ppm concentration? Is it liable to be
harmful if taken on a regular basis?
I would like to produce my own CS. I have no electrical engineering or
technical training and don't feel comfortable trying to build my own,
therefore I am looking to purchase a CS generator. This would be my first
attempt at producing CS at home. Will one of the LVDC generators produce an
effective, antimicrobial product for internal and external use, or would I
be better advised to invest in one of the HVAC devices?
Is the difference in the CS generated by either of these methods materially
better as a general purpose bactericide, fungicide, viricide for the home
user?
Is there any way of knowing the ppm and particle size of my home produced CS
short of paying a lab to run tests for me? Or, for that matter, is it really
important?
Can I really produce my own CS at home easily and reasonably economically,
or would I be better advised to purchase a ready made product.
How important, if at all, are things like particle size and ppm
concentrations to the average user of CS?
How important is the color and opacity of CS? In a commercially produced
product? In a product I produce at home?
Am I making this more complicated than it really is? Will any old CS or CS
generator do a fine job for my purposes?
Where can I find a list of links to companies producing CS generators for
home use?
Where can I find a list of links to companies producing quality CS?
What reading material would you recommend? Is there a reading list
available?
Thanks for inviting me to provide some input and taking the time to read
this rather lengthy post.
