Subject: MCS-CFS-FM-chronic pain-somatoform-psychiatric conference is
scheduled this Nov. 5-6 in Toronto

Alert: MCS-CFS-FM-chronic pain-somatoform-psychiatric conference
November 5-6 in Toronto, Canada

The EISC just learned of a strategically dangerous,
industry-organised conference that will be held in Toronto in three weeks
...
We knew you'd want to know!

We are writing to advise you of a strategically dangerous conference that is
coming to Toronto this November 5-6. We are writing you because you are
intimately aware of the issues faced by MCS-CFS-FM patients and, because you
are either:

1.. A medical expert in the field and would likely be interested in
attending the upcoming Canadian Institute sponsored conference
www.CanadianInstitute.com to learn what insurance industry experts are
recommending to insurance companies so they can make their refusals or
rejections ''stick'' on MCS-CFS-FM (EI) claims ... or,
2.. Likely in a position to help fund the EISC to send two registrants to
this strategically dangerous medical-insurance-lawyer focused conference.
The upcoming ''Canadian Institute'' conference appears to lack objectivity
and is deficient in representation from MCS experts. Conference organisers
have never approached the EISC or any of our sister organisations for
suggestions of the names of Environmental Medicine experts. Why?

Was this an error or a deliberate omission of truth?

They apparently do not want the truth to come out that EI is real, EI is
organic and that industry needs to pay disability claims.

Insurance and Chemical Manufacturers' Stated Strategy

This conference is seen as an attempt to block all advances made toward the
acceptance and recognition of Environmental Illness. The insurance
(chemical, perfume and pharmaceutical industries) told us, through Health
Canada, that they would block our joint first national conference (which
they did) and would mount their own conference (which they did first through
DND's medical ''MCS Symposium''). Through this conference, the lobby's
anti-MCS information is packaged for insurance companies and their lawyers
so that they can successfully prepare cases against MCS-CFS-FM claimants and
litigants.

This past May, the EISC/University of Calgary held a successful 1st
International Environmental Illness Conference. The EISC, laden under losses
accrued from the conference, has had to put on hold its advocacy fight
against lucrative industry interests. Never-the-less, the EISC has developed
a five year strategic plan that will assure the acceptance of Environmental
Illness in Canada. We are presently in a financial straightjacket, having
the financial burden of five and a half years of outreach, support and
educational programs.

The EISC's Strategy to Counterbalance Any Misinformation

The EISC feels it is crucial that there is a tangible presence of our
experts at this conference. To accomplish this we need to:

1.. Send two registrants to attend the conference
2.. Purchase and man an EISC booth
3.. Distribute CD multi-media transcripts of the 1st Int'l. EI Conference
to all registrants.
The EISC has contacted the conference organisers requesting the donation of
a booth. It is not likely to materialise since they sell and do not usually
donate their corporate booths.
We are looking to you to help us fund two experts to attend the conference
so that we can assure the dissemination of medical information and, so that
we can be sure that all unfounded statements of fact and misinformation
presented by industry are adequately countered, for the record.
The EISC was successful at assuring the counterbalancing of expertise at the
DND's conference. The EISC negotiated the number of MCS expert speakers at
the DND conference to 6 up from 3. It took a lot of high level negotiation
for which we are well known and which we have a successful track record. I
have already contacted the conference organisers to see if we can get any
MCS experts onto their speakers or panellist roster.

What We Need To Raise - Right Away

1. $3,500 for the registration of two of the EISC's medical experts

2. $1,500 for expenses (flights and accommodations)

3. $1,500 to purchase an EISC booth

4. $4,800 to assure that all conference registrants get an EISC CD of our
1st International EI Conference including selected speeches. Once they have
it in hand, insurance companies they will be liable for knowing its contents
when they are faced with court challenges by patients who have to litigate
their insurance claims.

Given that it is already October 15th and due to the fact that we just
learned of this industry-organised conference (scheduled in three weeks), we
ask that you pledge your donations to this project right away either by
phone 1-877-313-EISC or by internet donation through our secure website:
www.eisc.ca

When you indicate ''Canadian Institute Conference'' on your cheque or
internet donations, your donation will go towards funding this specific
project and no other. Canadians (and US) Tax Receipts will be given for all
donations. The IRS accepts EISC tax receipts against US tax returns.
(Contact the EISC for details).

Thank you for supporting the Environmental Illness Society of Canada in our
fight to protect the rights and interests of Canadians with MCS-CFS-FM. We
need to assure that doctors, lawyers and insurance companies continue to
receive balanced information from true MCS experts. One in seven < 1:7 >
Canadians already suffer from Environmental Illness. When you help us, you
are helping your family and friends as well.
