Dear Sir,
Yes. There is a difference in the different Penicillins
offered on the market. e.g. Penicillin dihydrostreptomycin IS NOT as
effective as the "old fashioned" Penicillin "G"-----at least that is what I
am informed. In SOME cases (I do not know which) Penicillin "G" is used as
the penicillin component in the "combiotic type" formulations.
Additionally, combiotic has the objectionable characteristic of "sometimes"
inflicting severe auditory complications......sometimes deafness (I am
told).
Penicillin "G" is an older formulation that remains effective against
certain pathogens which resist the newer concoctions----especially in cases
where "fastness" has not resulted from excessive "low-dosage" protocols. In
fact Penicillin "G" remains (I am told) the antibiotic of choice in cases of
bacterial pneumonia......where allergic reaction is not a genuine
consideration. Vancomycin...I am instructed....has the undesirable
characteristic of causing blood vessel collapse in a number of
cases----especially when used as the drug of last resort. I have had an
experience of this with a very close friend---result----fatality.
I hope these comments are of use to you.
                Sincerely, Brooks Bradley
