Dear Leo,
Having spent an entire adult lifetime addressing the challenges of the
question you pose......I offer the following observation: History seems to
have demonstrated that "deeply-intrenched" control systems....no matter the
degree of benigness claimed, rarely ever respond to supplication.
Additionally, benefical change rarely, if ever, originates from the "fox
guarding the henhouse". The unpleasant truth appears to be that meaningful
improvement germinates from single-source origins: essentially, from the
common individual's influence upon their closest associates----who in-turn,
have an ever-expanding influence upon THEIR closest associates, etc. Slow
at first, this process becomes exponential in a very short historical
context.
At this late stage in this life, I am reminded (constantly)
of Emerson's infrequently-repeated admonition......"How many of us still
live, who for the truth, should be dead". While he may have been speaking
allegorically, it becomes no less challenging. My greatest fear, at
present, is the acceleration in the loss of personal freedoms------based
upon legal, but spiritually crippling effects imposed by fearful,
well-meaning persons.......which have manifested---at least in part---from
our individual retreat from vigilance.
Now comes my personal advice. Whatever your view of the
world.....confide it entirely, to at least one person you feel to possess
genuine character. To do less is to abdicate your claim to
"Republican"......and constitutes an open refusal to state your claim
to being a free INDIVIDUAL.
The foregoing is not only an opinion.....it is, for
me----a personal doctrine of
my individual responsibility. This procedure has been "my candle" in the
"world-of-darkness"----at least I perceive it to be so.
Sincerely, Brooks Bradley.
