Vet means he doesn't have the right equipment.  You would need a
specialist equine vet.

He could have put a bone in the spine out.  Or cracked one of the
vertebrae.  Or even got a nerve trapped.  Hence the rest period.  Give
him as much time as he can possibly have, or  you will be risking
permanent damage.

Keep him in good condition, but not overfat.  Do everything you can to
prevent him getting excited and forgetting it hurts and then damaging
himself.
