Damian,

This test should not discourage you, you are trying to effect mucus
and white blood cells with CS. While there is probably some live
bacteria (or viri) in your sample, you would not know whether the CS
killed them or not without culturing a portion of the sample (not a
simple task without the proper medium).

While I am here, just a word about CS effectiveness against fungi
(yeasts and moulds). Yeasts and moulds are eukaryotic cells, that is
they work in a similar manner to human cells, the most important
difference (as far as we are concerned) is that they have a cell wall
which is composed of chitin, the same stuff that insect exo-skeletons
are made of. While yeasts are single celled organisms, moulds are
mostly large multicelled organisms.
One might expect CS to be less effective against fungi than it is
against bacteria and viri, especially moulds, being multicellular and
cell groups having varied and specialised functions.

CS does seem to be effective against some fungi and not against
others, and this probably relates to structural differences in the
cell wall and to the complexity of the fungus.

CS is over-hyped in some regards... I prefer to think of it as another
tool in the tool-box (maybe a socket set or shifting spanner).

Regards
Ivan.
