List, For those who want to make sure their inventions are not patented by someone else to their detriment, very aggressive online publishing is a good way to go about self-defense. There are even special inventor's journals for disclosing your own inventions so that you do not have to pay royalties to someone else for something you yourself created! I can post more about this later but have no time now. Let me know if you need names of journals for this purpose; I read something in the newspaper this week and clipped it.
Reid, you have already taken steps to prevent your own work from being taken away from you by a future patent-holder. Your manufacturing process is in the public domain already! This is not necessarily good if you hope to make money from the candles, however. This seems not to be your main concern, so my suggestion to you is be to keep posting your data online, and you will have many friends who will come to your defense if someone unscrupulous tries to cash in your charitable work. I will be first in line with a letter in your defense. Just keep documenting your work exactly as you have so far, including the photos, which are priceless documentation.
