Hello Gladys. Glad you're still with us!

Given both my "unconventional" politics and my interest in alt-health,
I feel this acutely. I feel closer to folks I've worked on political
campaigns with, and to many of you, than I do to members of my
extended family. They are mostly a strange breed of passive, incurious
folk, determined to shield their eyes from anything unsettling.

It was offensive, on several levels, and I've suggested to Mariano he
not repeat the mistake.

Agreed. I ask that humor and other OT chit-chat be appropriate to the
audience -- the diverse membership of this list. That precludes
many things that are likely to be offensive.

But I also need you all to be as thick-skinned as possible, and be
gentle in any attempt to correct one another, lest everybody be so
fearful of saying anything wrong that it stifles discussion. Mistakes
will happen. I ask you to work together *anyway.*

You are all my guests here. You are admitted and remain here at my
discretion, as list owner, and are expected to behave by whatever
standards I set, including courtesy toward all my other guests *and*
reasonable tolerance of others' foibles and gaffes -- not to mention
my own!

Thank you.

Is the currently popular phrase "people of color", applied collectively
to non-whites, appropriate, in your opinion? And the terms "black" or
"African American" still suitable when speaking specifically of that
group?

That's good to know, ma'am. God Bless!

Be well,

Mike D.
