My family all had their amalgam fillings removed and replaced some years ago. Dental insurance did cover it all at the time. It was a long and involved process and could only be done by a specially trained dentist after referral by our usual dentist.

We had to go on a special treatment which started 6 weeks before the first dental appointment and had to be carried on for 3 months after the end of all the removals. I can't recall all the stuff we had to take but two amino acids were important, L-cystine and methianine, but I don't remember what dose. Also high vitamin C and a good multi-B, good diet with as much organic food as we could get, low alcohol, etc. Other pills too but I cannot remember the details.

The dentist and staff looked like spacemen, dams, etc were used and gowns. The surgery had special air/ventilation. The mercury was collected by some sort of suction gadget and was placed in a hazardous waste container for special collection. All very high teck.

Our normal dentist gave us brochures and literature on all of this before hand and stressed the importance of having the proceedures done correctly.

We did see some papers which showed sheep who had been given regular amalgam (mercury) fillings and showed what happened to that mercury over a period of years. It collected in the kidneys and liver mainly with (if I remember) a high concentration in the thymus and the lung tissue. I have these papers somewhere amongst all my junk but have little hope of finding them easily. There has been a lot of research done on this subject and there are recognised training courses and qualifications for dentists in the amalgam removal field.

I would not go to a cheap or unqualified dentist for this sort of treatment, the risks are far too great.

Cheers, AF
