Without research I would be concerned about osmotic pressures.  The eye is very
sensitive to excessive pressure, which could cause blindness.  If DMSO were to
be absorbed  into the eye, I would expect a rather sudden, and possibly
excessive pressure increase. I could be wrong, but without any information to
the contrary I would be concerned.
