Recently, we gained information/data
relating to the excellent capabilities of Dmso----and BETAINE (most
especially in combination) as enhancing agents for increasing the yield
and specificity of Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR) products. PCR is a
process used to make many copies of select regions of DNA. Without
engaging in an extended technical diatribe, a short explanation
follows. While both substances enhance strand separation, the
short/simple explanation of how each, individually, affects the process
is......DMSO disrupts the base pairing, whereas betaine, an
isostabilizing agent, equalizes the contribution of GC- and AT- base
pairing to the stability of the DNA duplex.
The synergistic effect of combining 5% DMSO and 1mg Betaine
is proving superior to a wide number of commercial enhancers.
As a result of this newly-revealed effect, we are
considering investigating the use of this combination for
other......biologically-based enhancements. This becomes especially
intriguing when consideration involves the fact that no undesired
side-effects have displayed----when combining the two (DMSO and
Betaine).
An interesting side-note: Betaine, alone, has exhibited
pronounced results against certain forms of carcinoma. (Original work
performed by Dr. Alexander Ferenzci, M.D. in the late 1950's), using raw
beet stock for treating advanced prostate and breast cancer). Following
isolation of the betaine factor as the primary benefactor, most
researchers have utilized isolated betaine as the primary protocol
agent.
Evidence does seem to suggest that persons consuming betaine
hydrochloride---for HCL secretion insufficiencies in the stomach
(hypochlorhydria)---may be receiving some excellent bonuses from the
betaine component (for heart disease, stroke and liver disease). This
appears most pronounced among the older (60+ yrs) research populations
and those suffering excess alcohol insults..
Sincerely, Brooks Bradley.
