Morning Sue,

>>> My blood sugar averages 200+ in the mornings or more because I am a sugar (ok, chocolate) addict still but have stopped drinking pop at least! Replaced it with water

What are you using for your diet guidelines? Likely you are aware that the diet guidelines for diabetics are a bit flawed, and apparnetly do not work for any diabetics.

I am willing to try anything to avoid taking Metformin or other meds for diabeties so any information is welcomed!

My daughter and many friends are diabetics. A few years back, I studied diabetic infrmation and started eating a bit different so that I might avoid blood sugar problems.

     I like chocolate too.

If your digestive system can handle seeds, nuts, and fats, you could consider replacing some of your food with these items, gradually or suddenly, depending on how brave you are.

Considering eating less cooked food. Recently I made a 5 day road trip. During those 5 days, I only ate cooked food 3 times. Twice...... I ate sausage and fried eggs. One other meal was a catfish dinner.

I are the catfish dinner to be sociable, not because I felt I needed it, or it was the best thing to do.

I felt great all five days, never ran out of energy, and slept less than the people I was visiting.

Fortunately for me, the friend whom I was visiting had a sick wife. She cooked nothing during the 5 days. Nothing could have pleased me more. Not that I want anyone to be sick.

Another interesting point about this visit ...... when I was alone with my friend, I asked him, "What do you think is wrong with Betty". He had a one word reply. "Doctors".

My old friend is 75 years old and much healther than most of my friends who are 20 years younger.

If you can learn to like it, try mixing some trailmix and eating this instead of conventional food.

A few ounces of trailmix, two or three times per day, gets great gas mileage.

Any days that I do not get enough trailmix due to working and not having time to eat it, I feel starved to death. It stays in the stomach longer and gives great energy.

The best thing about trailmix is that you can tailor it to suit your taste. Use only fresh, raw ingredients, and avoid anything cooked in bad fats. Actually if you would avoid most cooked foods, you will fare better in many respects.

I decided long ago, cooked food is not what keeps one healthy.

Take a look at my trailmix page. www.fugitt.com/trailmix.htm

You will find a listing of foods with nutrients. Virtually everything I eat is on this listing.

If you have not done it already, check the Karl Loren site for some different ideas on diabetes.
