Hi Mike,
I do not like to answer this question, but do think it's important. And
I think you should also answer it for us.

During the Vietnam War I was a conscientious objector (CO), and did a
couple of years of alternative service in lieu. To this day I am of a
conviction that if personally threatened with harm or death I would be
impassive, though hoping for a dialogue, of the type that would avert
the violence.

But now, with a family the matter is different. Rater than seeing my
wife or children threatened I would kill, though hoping to have a chance
to assess the possibility of dialogue.

Given some comments being made about the likely war on Iraq, I have a
question on a slightly different subject:

When is it right to kill?

I'm asking this question with respect to *you* *personally*, not via
government action half a world away. Your finger on the trigger or the
knife or bludgeon in your own hand.

What circumstances or condition would be sufficient to justify your
taking the life of another human being?

Think carefully. Explain your reasoning, please.

Thank you.
