I suspect that the reason the silver alloys worked is because the
silver is normally *alloyed with copper.*  That is, it's the copper in
the bracelets and chains that is doing the job on arthritis.
Centuries ago, copper miners in England were discovered to never get
arthritis, while lots of people in there locality did have arthritis.
People started wearing copper bracelets, armbands and such and found
their arthritis went away.
