Very shortly: Glucosamine is the one that balances the water molecules in the cartilage. So people with problems in the joints use it and it helps them a lot. There are a couple of different types of glucosamine, the most well absorbed as far as I know is sulfate. There is also hydrochloride. When mixed with chondroitin it increaces the effect, so often you'll see them together - i.e. in one capsule. Except chondroitin is expensive. Glucosamine is not found in any natural foods/products, so that's why it is important to take it as a supplement if you have joints problem.
