That makes it worth the effort to post this kind of information. > Do you have any trouble forming other compounds such as Ole Bob is > always talking about? NO3, I guess, and anything else? To be very honest, I really don't think there's much difference with any of the methods I've tried. The 3-nines method works well, thermal stirring works, bubbling works, a small motor driving a straw works, running 18V works, 27V works, 130V works, 160V works, and 320V works. Everythings works! The only reason I use resistive current limiting is that I tend to get involved with my work and sometimes I don't pay attention when the timer goes off. With resistive limiting, I can often salvage a run even if it goes way over the normal time. I don't have to throw it out and start over again, like I had to with the three nines method. > Do you recommend using nail polish or something to insulate around > the electrodes at the water interface? Nope. It's simply not needed. Don't put anything in or around the water except silver and current. I had a very bad experience one time when I got something on one of the rods. Perhaps a drop of oil from working on my car, or a bit of wax from poishing the desk afterwards - who knows? I thought the next run was a bit funny. There was a dark brown spot under one of the rods instead of the normal black smudge. I thought nothing of it and drank the silver like normal. I got so sick for two or three days I thought I was going to die. It was not a normal upset stomach - there was definitely some chemical reaction during the electrolysis that turned out to be very toxic. Since then, I mount the rods securely in a plastic lid, and make sure they point up in the air when I have finished a run. No more surprises for me - once was enough.
