Ken, you're ok. You just need some help with procedure and timing.
Three batteries snapped together, or a "wall wart" battery eliminator, couple of
clip leads, 2 silver wires 999 pure, distilled water.
As you've already done, but run it no longer than 30 to 45 minutes.
NO SALT!
Heat the water if you want, not really necessary.
You're just running it too long.
