Well, the baby came back from the dead!  

The wildlife expert told me to moisten some cat (or dog) food with boiling 
water, let cool, mush a bit, then feed little bits pushed back into their 
throat.  I used an artist's paint brush so I wouldn't injure the guy.  They 
said not 
to give water, because the airway is under the tongue, and it would be too 
easy for it to go down the wrong way.  All the moisture it needed it got from 
the moistened food.

By stroking his winglet, I got him to open his mouth.  Little by little he 
ate and ate.  Started talking before too long, and then gaping.  I got him to 
the wildlife rehabilitator by 1:30 pm.  

I never needed the CS.
