Sharon- My daughter once had to have a baby tooth removed which had the root broken off in the socket. My dentist sent me to an oral surgeon who was very arrogant and insisted she would have to have it done under a general anesthetic with an IV, as he might have to peel back her gum to dig it out. I knew a girl who ended up with a paralyzed arm after such a procedure and was determined she was not going to have a general, so I went to another oral surgeon who thought it was no problem at all to remove the tooth with a local. I dumped the uncooperative surgeon. The nice dr. pulled the tooth, made a small incision over the broken off root, wiggled it with forceps and pulled it right out. No problem. He charged less, too. He also dug out my son's wisdom teeth with a local anesthetic, and my son was glad not to have a general like I had years before when mine were done.
Anyway, don't feel locked in to this doctor and call around and maybe you can find a nicer dr. with a better attitude.
