Many sports drinks are known to contain aspartame. When amount is less than 2% there is no legal obligation to state it on the label. Hanneke List, I do not know whether amino acid drinks are marketed outside Japan, but the TV news reported yesterday about a man here who developed very severe diabetes as a direct consequence of consuming excessive quantites of amino acid supplement drinks. He was consuming about six liters per day. The culprit was the sugar in the drinks -- which kind of sugar was not clear from the report. Glucose, fructose, sucrose? I am not sure right now. The report said sports drinks also have high sugar levels. Bottom line: the man now shoots insulin before every meal; he evidently did himself a great deal of damage in a very short time -- just a month or so I think. Overdoing anything can bring bad consequences. . .
