Hi Yevonne,

please excuse this tardy response to
your request for help - I was waiting
for more knowledgeable list members
to respond, but I will offer what little I
have learned here.

First, it does sound as if the CS is
working too well, as evidently does
happen - - a HERX reaction you called it.
If that is the case, and if I remember correctly,
the right approach is to discontinue taking CS
for a few days, and then resume with smaller,
or maybe less frequent doses and see if slowly
increasing frequency / dose will help the body
avoid such a reaction.

The prognosis is, as I have read,
not encouraging.
- - - - - - -

"Glandular fever (or infectious mononucleosis) is a viral infection caused
by the Epstein-Barr virus. The incidence is around 50 per 100,000 persons
per year with a prevalence of 1 in 1,000 in the 15-25 age group. The
incubation is long , lasting four to seven weeks and is spread through the
air and also by kissing.

Before the common symptoms occur there may be a 'flu-like illness  for one
to two weeks. In the majority of patients the infection consists of a fever,
sore throat, fatigue, and swollen cervical (neck) glands. Other symptoms
include headache, abdominal pain and muscle weakness.  Symptoms last for two
to four weeks and, in a minority of patients, can last for many months. 5%
of patients develop symptoms of chronic fatigue syndrome.

The main treatment of the condition is rest and avoidance of strenuous
exercise. Once you have had the infection, immunity is life-long. "

The above I found at: google.com - glandular fever as the search words.
There is a lot of information there.

I hope that this is some help to your friend - - please keep in touch with
the list about any progress.
