Hi all,
We have an animal sanctuary for challenged animals. One of our very dearest
residents is a great dane born with no eyes. Sadie is one of the most
loving creatures you could ever want to know. She good naturedly bumps into
things using her head and body to experience the life around her. She is
fearless in her exploration of the surrounding woods. We live on the side
of a mountain, on a bench. For those of you that do not know what a bench
is, it is a level of land that is flat, but steep above and below.
Apparently in her daily exploration Sadie had a fall. When I found her she
was in her dog house shaking and feverish. We had no idea what had
happened. However, with some nursing she was back to hobbling around and
looked a little scuffed up so we figured she must have fallen. Our vet, the
only one we would even trust, was out of town. Sadie continued to improve
for 3 days and then took a turn for the worst last night. Her low grade
fever spiked rather high, 105.8, she was trembling all over and we thought
we would loose her. The antibiotics I was giving her did not touch the
infection that was raging. Yes, we also had her on silver. The silver we
had on hand was some we had purchased from oz before we knew more about the
product. It was the quadruple strength 400 ppm, meant to be used at ¼ the
normal dosage. We tried silver enemas, silver orally, cefelexin, steroids,
you name it. At that point you just try everything. At dawn I found myself
asking for a miracle. She was in tremendous pain. Shortly there after, I
am sure in response to my request for a miracle, I remembered reading
somewhere on this list so long ago about a horse near death that was saved
by an injection of silver. What have I got to loose I thought
yes, it is
silver citrate, but it is the only silver we have on hand not having made a
batch recently. So, I gave Sadie 3 ccs of 400 ppm. It was a painful shot
and she raised up and gave a good cry. That was tough. However, within an
hour of the shot her fever started dropping
now it is at 103.5 and she is
gently snoring. I have not given her antibiotics since last night
prior to
that she had been on antibiotics for 2 days. My vet called tonight and he
surmised that she probably damaged her liver and or spleen in the fall
hence
the release of toxins. He was amazed the cefelexin did not touch the raging
infection and more amazed about the silver. He said I have read about
silver but never tried it. He is not opposed to holistic and believes in
supplements etc
this is a new chapter of information for him. We were going
to bring her in tomorrow, but he advised to let her rest and just carefully
monitor the situation. To take her in requires putting her on a stretcher
and over a bumpy road for the long drive to town which would cause the
bruised areas some more pain. I am very encouraged at her progress.
So, desperate people take desperate measures. I had no idea of dosage and
realized I was giving her one heck of a dose. Nice thing about silver, it
is hard to go wrong.
Whomever wrote the horse story thank you
it was that little bit of
information that saved a life today. Prolonged fever on a dane can cause
the heart to overwork to the point of quitting. Her big, beautiful heart
that makes her so special was almost pounding out of her chest. You never
know when some tidbit of information will lodge in someones consciousness
and be recalled at that crucial juncture. Sadie made me think of the horse
as we always tease she is like a small horse. It was that particular story
that penetrated through the panic and fog that kept me from recalling the
mounds of technical information that I have stored somewhere, not easily
recalled in desperation. Thank you, whoever you are.
And we should always thank each other for the antidotes we share
with the
world the way it is, we are fortunate to have this medium to share the best
part of ourselves, the part that wants to be of service
As always,
A rose
