I agree on both counts. Certainly the experiment needs to be repeated and results verified, but a little reasoned speculation on the mechanism by which it may work can at least be stimulating. As slow as the reaction seemed to run, one other possible explanation would be microamp level currents via the air (including water vapor and other potential carriers) through the surface of the water. I look forward to the results of Peter's repeat experiment. I'm not sure any particular benefits are offered by the effect, but you never know! Be well, Mike D.
