Hi Paula,
I had a test in the hospital years ago (can't remember exactly what test)
where they used an intravenous contrast dye that contained some sort of
iodine I belive. I recall getting the taste of seafood in my mouth but,
more importantly, I broke out in hives. No more contrast dyes for me! I
have an allergy to the stuff. Oddly, though, I can eat any type of seafood
and have taken Lugol's solution without side effects. I don't understand
why I can tolerate seafood and Lugol's but not the contrast dye... which I'm
sure had iodine.
thanks for the heads-up though.

My usual warning--SSKI and any product containing iodine is not for anyone
allergic to iodine. I can't believe how many people do not know that iodide
is iodine, as is povidone and crospovidone, or that sea salt contains
iodine as do carrageenan, algin, agar, and all such seaweed thickeners. And
some people do not know that Lugol's is iodine.
Fortunately iodine allergy is apparently rare, but since I am one of the
unlucky few who has it, I know that the consequences for those senstivie to
iodine can be severe and even life threatening.
