Dimes are not pure silver (pre 1964) they are about 90% silver. In order to make the coin last because silver is very soft they mix it with another metal (nickel I think). Nickel is toxic.

I keep trying to think of something that's made out of pure copper and I'm just not getting there. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Charles Sutton" <[email protected]> To: "Marshall Dudley" <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2003 11:02 AM Subject: Re: CS>Zapper > Can I solder pure silver dimes over the pennies??? > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Marshall Dudley" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Thursday, October 23, 2003 12:40 PM > Subject: Re: CS>Zapper > > > > I don't think pennies are a good idea, unless they make certain that old > pennies > > are used.
