Dimes are not pure silver (pre 1964) they are about 90% silver.  In order to
make the coin last because silver is very soft they mix it with another
metal (nickel I think).  Nickel is toxic.

How would you keep the case from melting if you did solder the times to the
pennies?

I keep trying to think of something that's made out of pure copper and I'm
just not getting there.
