I don't think pennies are a good idea, unless they make certain that old pennies are used. Pennies use to be made out of virtually pure copper, but due to the high cost of copper, they are now mostly zinc. Zinc is a definite skin irritant for many people. Here is the history on the penny: 1793 - 1837 - 100% copper 1837-1857 = 95% copper 5% tin + zinc 1857- - 88% copper 12% zinc 1864 - 1962 - 95% copper 5% tin + zinc (except 1943 when they were zinc coated steel) 1962-1982 - 95% copper 5% zinc 1982- present - 97.5% zinc 2.5% copper I do not think that zinc is a good choice for an electrode that contacts the skin.
