There is a direct linear relationship.
 One Ion is one atom [minus an electron]
X number of atoms in one liter of water [or whatever] = Y PPM depending on
how heavy that particular substance is as compared to the substance it's in.

 The 'indirect' relationship has to do with the collective conductivity of
those atoms and ions of atoms. [uS per PPM]
