Birds have gizzards which nonselectively chew things [like seeds] up.
 Some seeds are too hard even for the gizzard, like pokeweed, and use the
bird for reproduction and distribution.
 Other animals are more selective.
 Apple seeds aren't very hard.
 People are a lot bigger than chickens and may also be more resistant to
poisons. [possibly because we eat so many]
 Some animals are even immune to rattle snake bites.
 People can build an immunity to them.
