This would be truer if those making "the pitch"
weren't also using politicians to legislate away any
other choices but "the pitch". Here in Canada,
starting Jan 1st, every product on the shelf in a
Health Food store MUST have a Drug Identification
Number (DIN) to be sold. (This is to protect us from
those unscrupulous herb dealers.) Guess how hard it is
to obtain a DIN? Guess which products WON'T get one?
(Try CS) Oh, yeah, each person trying to obtain a DIN
must also obtain a Site License. What does that mean?
It means having facilities equal to a commercial
kitchen. I have a friend who makes an herbal salve
that she sells. She has been apprised that, if she
uses the word "natural", she has to have the
commercial kitchen facilities. If she doesn't, she can
make it in her garage on a sheet of plywood.

How will I continue selling CS in Canada? (I'm not
getting a DIN!) Plant Health Stimulator. I assume they
will not require a DIN to sell fertilizer. Would I
need a DIN for fish emulsion? Unlikely. Actually, I've
sent Health Canada (oxymoron!) an email asking them if
I do. No answer yet.

Are we the guilty party here for not taking the
political action needed to stop this? Yes, if you
believe that votes actually mean anything. If you
believe that bought politicians give a darn about
their constituents. OK, if we rose up enmasse and
started throwing out politicians right and left, they
would likely listen to us even though bought, but my
confidence in that happening is less than great (read
that, non-existent).

Oh, dear, a cynical rant, just when I am trying to
approach life hopefully.

Terry
