Both the off-topic topic of oil and the on-topic question of soil
depletion have featured prominently in recent postings. This month's
Harper's Magazine has a cover-story essay devoted to tracing the
relationship of our whole agricultural system to our dependence on oil!
I have not read it yet but the introduction suggests this is
something that will interest many list-members.
