Jules,  You should find plenty of info in the archives to keep you busy for a 
while concerning wide anode such as anode to cathode surface area ratio and 
such.  

The first change you can make is stop using salt, but it sounds like you've 
already done that. ☺  You don’t need a “seed” of CS either.  The seed CS speeds 
up the process, but the particles can be bigger that way.  Just start with your 
setup and make the CS in distilled water.
