I am not certain, but I think "modified food starch" is another name used for monosodumglutimate.

Did you know that if an ingredient is part of another product that they use none of the components of that product it has to be on the label? Just an indicator that they added "xyz" product. Like "modified food starch", which is often potatoe starch - my daughter is terribly allergic to potatoes. We don't use anyting with modified food starch, even though it is often just corn strach, no way to tell it is not potatoe starch or a mixture.
