Hi folks,
Just thought I'd better check as I remembered something odd about "placebo":
PLACEBO;Noun
1. innocuous or inert medication; given as a pacifier or to the control group in experiments on the efficacy of a drug
2. In Roman Catholic Church: vespers of the office for the dead

I meant (1) of course...................

There *was* an outrageous "study" I recall some thirty years ago to deny the existence of the placebo effect.

As a psychologist way back in the last century, I recall working with Evans in the U.K., on past-life regression and one excellent subject who would demonstrate extraordinary facial blistering which vanished upon returning. The female subject very accurately reported details of being a 24 y.o. male in Venice some 200 years prior - one of which was a pestilent disease which forced the wearing of a mask constantly............. Any reasonable hypnotist can demonstrate astounding physiological control of the body by a participant.
(Don't even get me started on what hypnosis is!) :-)

Any old school Medical practitioner knows about the "will to live" - or die.

Any reasonable observer should understand, IMHO, that life is the 3-legged stool of Taoism: Mind AND Body AND Spirit. Not too useful without any one of them. The body however, is subject to very earthly rules: needs very earthly support. No amount of psyche effort can replace the need to eat - or more importantly - drink ....... at least in this plane/zone/dream/reality.
Thank heaven for CS!

Cheers,
Himagain

Oh, Ode, In the oldest book of knowledge known to man it is stated several times that the logic of culling the weakest 30% is understandable ...... otherwise the earth would soon overflow with people! Sadly, I believe that we have seen the last of the "old people who didn't/don't get sick". The typical life expectancy in the USA/West is dropping like a stone and the non-public actuarial statistics now show why *anyone* can get life assurance, so long as it doesn't cash in before age 66. The chances of anyone born after 1970 living to 60+ is very low. The 21st century "lifestyle" will kill 'em.
