Colloidal silver
From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia.
Colloidal silver is <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver>silver in very
fine particles, suspended in water. It can be prepared by any of several
methods:
* <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrical>Electrical method: Pass
12-30 <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volt>volts through two silver
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Electrode>electrodes in
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mineral>mineralized (salt)
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Water>water for 2-3 minutes per glass. Put a
small <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Light_bulb>light bulb in the circuit.
If the bulb lights, the water is conducting and the process starts. If not,
add a little salt. Use to disinfect unsafe water (as while camping).
* Commercial method (e.g., Micropur): use 0.3-0.32%
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Solution>solution. Use 1 drop for 2
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liter>liters of water, or approximately 2
drops per <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gallon>gallon. Wait 20 min to drink.
Colloidal silver has been claimed to kill various
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Microorganism>microorganisms. Continued
ingestion of colloidal silver may result in
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Argyria>argyria. Colloidal silver is good for
application on (even non-healing) wounds / burns (req. higher concentration
of <http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver>Ag).
