Marshall, Whay and Heather - I learned never to use CS in my 30 gallon freshwater tank *the hard way*. :-)
CS is known to kill one-celled organisms and bacteria probably fit that bill, but some types of bacteria are good and needed. Adding 2 ozs. of 3% "food grade" h202 (hydrogen peroxide) after each water change is the best thing I've found. It keeps my fish really healthy and active and the water crystal clear.
