Hi, before anything else, I wanted to say that I'm soon switching to a
yahoo email address, since I'm finding M2W awkward to use. I'll respond
to yours below as I'm able.

Do all CRTs bother those with sensitivity? For instance can you watch TV
on a CRT?

You may find this newsgroup thread of interest (it brings up your Q):

What about plasma screen TVs, although I don't really
understand them, I don't think they work by florescence?

**********************
In this Computer-Eye thread, I previously posted that cloanto URL,
wherein there were many testimonials, including one complaining about
plasma TVs. I don't know much about plasma TVs except that their very
bigness is horrendous.
**********************

I know since monitors have improved, my eyes are less sensitive -- the
old monitors were very hard on my eyes.

*******************
That may have been due to low refresh rates, hence flicker. It also
might have depended on how large & bright they were, or whether they
were non-interlaced. Another possibility is that it took up so much room
on your desk that it was in closer proximity to your eyes. Finally, you
may be among those who are more EMF sensitive than PHOTOsensitive. These
two segments of society may have separate issues - who knows... This may
be no different than the fact that some peoples' ears hurt upon loud
music, but my ears are OK with loud music. Those same people whose ears
hurt, might be able to tolerate smells of alcohol & perfume, but not
me!.
********************

Not sure if I can coorelate any
general health effects. My newer monitors that are flat screen are so
much better. I have never used any of the filters you speak of but am
intrigued.

***********************
You mention "flat screen" (do you mean LCD? Or CRT with flat screen?
***********************

I am very interested in the EMF sensitive and also the effects of
flouroescent lighting. Doesn't Ott reccomend full spectrum flouroescent
lights?

******************
Ahem... maybe the EMF issue affects others, but not me. It urks me that
this EMF issue can be very misleading & time-wasting to photosensitives
who bark down that dead-end alley, when their *real* issue is one of
photosensitivity. I wasted time & money trying both a
"protective-pendant" and a $300 EMF "protective-device" which failed to
help me. Furthermore, my 14" 1990 CRT definitely has EMFs (since paper
clings to it via static cling) yet it's much more tolerable than the
2002 Samsung LCD which is touted as emission free.

Re: Ott, yes I believe he recommends full spectrum fluorescent, but I'm
not sure that's the answer for me. I think dim-incandescent may be best
for me. Besides, I have no idea whether the lighting that's contained in
computer monitors are full spectrum. I was in communication with an
expert who I discovered on a message board dedicated to lighting issues.
When I posed the question as to why monitor producers don't offer warm
fluorescense, she responded that infra red lighting is healing. Whereas
Irlen Syndrome specialists may have other sort of input. I dunno.

My husband gets styes easily, often from burning trash or mowing. So did
his Dad. I wonder if looking at the computer screen makes them worse. He
uses CS to clear them, it seems to take longer if he is spending a lot
of time in front of the computer.

********************
I wouldn't be at all surprised if the computer monitor is a factor. I
know that it speeds up my metabolism, and causes me inflammations,
ravaged muscles, bone pain & tingling teeth. I feel a lumpiness under my
jaw as well. And I get terrible urinary tract infections. And much more.
I've been in touch with others locally, who have been suffering these
mysterious tumors & blood diseases, and they've been working on
computers alot. One of them (a programmer for years) was sick as a dog.

Not so much with a TV but that is a
different type of viewing I suppose.
