Personally, I believe organized religion is a conspiracy to build a
consentual universe called "heaven" where certain entites can maintain
control by shaping expectations for an 'afterlife' enforced by threats of
Hell.
Problem is, there are many versions of it that look enough alike for them
to overlap, but different enough to fight about..sorta like 'here' where we
are neighbors in 'many mansions'. [Which, according to the words of Jesus
who spouted an algebraic formula for reality creation couched in various
parables, is made in exactly the same way as Heaven]
Robin Williams made a movie "What Dreams May Come" that covers the
scenerio pretty well. In that movie, Robin and friends made a trip into
Hell to rescue his wife that illustrated the risks of becoming a product of
ones environment of surrounding belief structures based on believing what
one sees [which is what we think we do], vs, seeing what one believes
[which is what we do].
The rescue itself centered around rescuing her mind from her beliefs about
herself, illustrating that Hell is not a "location"...nor is Heaven [though
both 'appear' to be]...nor, for that matter, is "here".
The movies "The 13th Floor" and "The Matrix" are also relevant.
The premise comes from a melding of psychology, perceptual studies and
quantum physics as well as the words of virtually all of the sages
throughout time.
In the field of quantum physics, there is emerging a niggling suspicion
that the laws of physics are not set in stone any more than the componants
of that stone are as solid and unyielding as they seem to be to the head
that gets wacked by it.

But, this is an OT subject.
 No further elucidation here.
