Cheapest is to make your own. Right time of year to do it, at least in
my hemisphere. You pick black walnuts - make sure they are black
walnuts and not english walnuts - get a tree book at your library and
ascertain the correct leaf type, etc. for a black wlanut tree. Pick the
nuts off the tree when ripe but hull still green - doesn't mean its not
ripe, it means its not spoiled or oxidized. Works best when you pick
them directly off the tree for this purpose. As soon as they fall they
usually start oxidizing - hull turning black. It is in the green hull
that the "good stuff" exists. You fill an air tight container, large as
possible, with the whole walnuts - don't crack them, oxidization
starts. Cover with vodka, completely fill the container, covering all
nuts. If some nuts stick out, remove them. sprinkle a little ascorbic
acid powder
over the concoction. Lay plastic wrap over the concoction and cover
with air tight closed lid - you don't want any air space in the
container is why you use the plastic wrap. any air space will allow
oxidation to occur, which lowers the quality of the tincture. You let
the concoction sit, closed, for three days. Then you open, pour the
tincture off and bottle in air-tight containers, store out of light at
room temperature.
You can easily make enough for a whole year at one time. Much cheaper.
Only problem si finding a black walnut tree. Many people are delighted
to invite you to gather their walnuts - they are a bit of a hassle to
keep cleaned up and to dry and open for use. You can ask your city
parks folks if you can
gather black walnuts from a park tree. I've done that. They even gave
me locations of additional trees in case I needed more. In most areas
you can find a black wanut tree just by going for a walk through your
neighborhood. Good luck. joy
Makes sense! I'll probably have to break down and get the walnut
tincture that Hulda Clarke recommends. Does anyone have any
reasonably priced walnut tincture recommendations?
