The "fluff" that you're getting on the stainless electrode should be silver and/or silver oxides, possibly in a matt of small gas bubbles. If you'd like to be absolutely sure, just replace the stainless electrode with a silver one. Then switch 'em every few months to keep the wear even. Silver isn't *that* expensive! Be well, Mike D.
