Distilled water is inert to gold and silver. (water reacts to magnesium because the magnesium splits the molecule and ignites the hydrogen) Running water will erode metal (and rock) over time. However the particles are too big to be metabolized by the body. If you just place gold or silver in standing water it will simply oxidize.
