If I were in the Tsunami-infected zone, I would prefer
the Katadin water sterilizer/filter. It is based on a
silver-bearing artificial ceramic filter. I think it pre-dates
the FDA and is therefore grand-fathered for importation
from Switerland, where it was invented many years ago.
It either kills or blocks pathogens over a vast range of
sizes, from viruses to protozoa. Toxicity is not an issue.
Its one drawback: it is not cheap.

But even the Katadin sterilizer/filter should be supplemented
with a container additive like EIS, if the water is not used
immediately.
